Student Resources
The Chemistry Department recognizes and values the time that students spend outside of the lab and classroom. Here we would like to highlight and provide information for career selection, study aids, scholarship/grant opportunities, as well as opportunities to become involved on campus with fellow chemistry students.

FAQs for Prospective Graduate Students
Are GRE scores required for admission to the Chemistry Department and UMass-Boston?
No, while submitting GRE scores is recommended to help the admissions committee get to know you better, it is not required for admission to the program.
Which English-language proficiency exams do you accept? What are the minimum scores accepted by your department? I attended an English-speaking undergraduate institution, do I still need to submit English-language proficiency exam scores?
The answers to these and other potential questions that arise among international graduate applicants can be found here. Under the section, 'English Language Proficiency,' you will find a list of accepted exams and minimum required scores for each exam. You will also find listed here a list of countries for which at least two academic years of full-time study (excluding ESL and test-prep) at an English-language institution serves to eliminate the English-language proficiency exam requirement.
I would like to request an application fee waiver. How do I go about doing this?
Application fee waivers are only granted at the request of individual faculty members. It is recommend you identify potential research advisors and discuss possible openings with them. Faculty who identify applicants of particular interest can request fee waivers on their behalf. You can read more about the research being done by faculty in our department here.
Can I submit my application for consideration by the admissions committee with unofficial transcripts only?
Yes. Your application can be considered by the admissions committee without the inclusion of official transcripts, however, if admitted, you must submit official transcripts to the university before your admission can be completed.
