External Funding Databases
Most of the databases described below are available via any computer with a UMass Boston IP address. If you do would like to access these databases from home, please read Accessing Funding Databases from a Computer Without a UMass Boston IP Address.
Pivot (formerly Community of Science, or COS) is an Internet-based resource for funding opportunities and alert services. Pivot also offers EXPERTISE, a database of professional researcher profiles in North America for encouraging collaborative research projects. SPIN tracks funding opportunities from federal, private, and corporate sources. Infoed, the vendor for SPIN, also offers the SMARTS application for matching principal investigators' profiles with potential funding sources.
Researchers are also encouraged to utilize the grants.gov database, which is the single access point for over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 federal grant-making agencies.
The Foundation Directory Online, available thanks to the generosity of the Office of University Advancement, provides information about public and private foundations in the U.S., including profiles and links to foundation websites. UMass Boston faculty, staff, and students interested in using the directory should visit the Healey Library website and select the menu option "Databases & Indexes."
