Lost & Found

The UMass Boston Police Department's Lost & Found is committed to returning lost items to their owners. When an item is turned into Lost & Found attempts will be made to contact the owner of the item by email and/or telephone whenever possible.

Location:

  • Quinn Administration Building, 1st Floor, next to the catwalk that connects to the Integrated Sciences Complex

Hours:

  • Monday—Friday 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Items picked up outside of those times by appointment only. Email dps.lostandfound@umb.edu to schedule an appointment

Contacting Lost & Found:

  • To inquire about an item please call 617.287.7799 or email dps.lostandfound@umb.edu.
  • When inquiring about an item please be as descriptive as possible.
    • Helpful descriptions include:
      • Type of Item (i.e. book, clothing, cell phone, credit card,...)
      • Maker of item (i.e. Apple, North Face, Dell,...)
      • Color of item
      • Size of Item
      • Last location you had the item

Claiming a Lost Item:

  • Valid photo ID required (UMass Boston ID, driver's license, official passport). Property will not be released to anyone without an ID.
  • If you received an email with a property number please bring a copy of that email with you so that we can use the property number to locate the item in Property Storage.

Items Maintained in Lost & Found include:

  • Books, notebooks, and planners
  • Sunglasses, prescription eyewear
  • Cellphones
  • Radios, MP3s, iPods
  • Jewelry
  • Backpacks
  • Sports equipment
  • Computer equipment
  • Other miscellaneous items

Items Not Accepted:

  • Food and drink containers are usually discarded.
  • Items that present a sanitation risk (soiled) are also discarded.
  • Broken Items

Unclaimed Items:

  • Property with no obvious monetary or sentimental value will be held for one week.
  • Property of an estimated value up to $100, with no obvious sentimental value, will be held for 30 days.
  • Property of an estimated value of over $100, or with obvious sentimental value, will be kept for 1 year.

If items are not retrieved within these time frames the item(s) will be purged from our property storage.
