Performing Arts’ Season Opens with Clue: On Stage, Live Concerts

The UMass Boston Performing Arts season opens on Thursday with Clue: On Stage, a live play based on the ’80s movie and the game – a lightning-fast hilarious murder mystery with the most technically elaborate set seen in a number of years. Concerts begin on Friday, with an already sold-out performance by the UMass Boston Orchestra.
A unique feature of CLUE: On Stage will be UMass Boston personalities appearing in cameos as newscasters at the top of the show. They include: Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco (Nov. 14), CLA Dean Pratima Prasad (Nov. 15), Governor Maura Healey’s Communications Director Jillian Fennimore (director Michael Fennimore’s daughter) (Nov. 16, matinee), Chief of Police Stacey Lloyd (Nov. 16, evening), Vice Chancellor of Athletics Jacqui Schuman (Nov. 20), Undergrad SGA President Christelle Joseph (Nov. 21), Provost Joseph Berger (Nov. 22), and Alumni Board Member Jim O’Sullivan ’80 (Nov. 23).
The opening night of CLUE: On Stage is already sold out, but tickets are available for the other seven performances. Tickets are at umb.universitytickets.com.
The Performing Arts Season also includes performances by our Orchestra, Jazz bands, and Choruses.
The UMass Boston Orchestra, paying tribute to the great Duke Ellington, takes the stage on November 15. Tickets are sold out. Sommer Forrester returns to the conductor’s podium after a sabbatical, with 51 musicians on stage. This performance will showcase an accomplished full orchestra in the intimate acoustics of University Hall’s Recital Hall.
Jazz! Live! Is November 22 and 23, featuring three full bands weaving through improvisational takes on the jazz cannon. Co-directed by long-time faculty Peter Janson, and bass aficionado Ervin Dhimo, it is reliably the coolest night on campus. Tickets are at umb.universitytickets.com
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! The UMass Boston Choruses – the oldest continually running organization on campus – get into the Christmas spirit with their first holiday concert since 2015. Long-time director David Giessow leads our two choruses, 50 voices, through festive music, and a strong possibility of snow in the Recital Hall. Tickets are at umb.universitytickets.com
