Chris Sweeney - Director of Marine Operations

Director of Marine Operations at the UMass Boston. Chris graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy with BS in Marine Engineering and has a Masters of Business Administration from UMass Boston.

After sailing in the U.S. Merchant Marine for several years as a U.S. Coast Guard licensed engineer he came ashore and earned his U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Master license while working on various ferries and tugs in Boston Harbor; he has been a captain on many vessels throughout Boston Harbor for over 25 years.

At UMass Boston, since 1996 Chris has developed the Division of Marine Operations from a small department with limited facilities, several floats used seasonally and a couple of small powerboats into multi-faceted year-round research, educational, and business enterprise within the university. In addition to Marine Operations Chris has progressively assumed many administrative and leadership positions at the university including Facilities Management, Customer Service, and Transportation Services.

When not working Chris enjoys time with his family, boating, fishing, and scuba diving.
