Other Projects and Programs

Andrew Mowbray’s Wind Driven Drawing Machine
Andrew Mowbray’s Wind Driven Drawing Machine (2015–present)

  • On View: August 14–September 27, 2024
  • Location: Along the Harbor Walk between Old Harbor Park and the JFK Library (GPS link)
  • About the artwork: Inspired by pseudo-scientists of the Enlightenment, Mowbray created an artwork that asks, “What does it mean for the wind to make a drawing?” On the interior of the mylar cylinder at the center of the sculpture, this kinetic, site-specific sculpture generates pen drawings guided by the wind’s velocity and direction. Drawings made by this artwork will be shown in the group exhibition Nurture: Empathy for the Earth at the University Hall Gallery.

This installation is made possible with generous support from Arts on the Point, the Paul Hayes Tucker Fund, The SPACE Committee, and Fisher Space Pen.
