Nigel Hamilton is British-born, now a naturalized American biographer and historian. He is a recipient of the Whitbread Prize for Biography and the Templer Medal for Military History. Mr. Hamilton was elected as president of BIO (Biographers International Organization) and hosted its conferences at UMass Boston in May 2010 and 2014.

His latest work is the first of a two-volume study of Franklin Delano Roosevelt  as U.S. Commander in Chief in World War II, The Mantle of Command: FDR at War, 1941-1942, published in 2014. In 2010, Hamilton published  American Caesars, a biography of the last twelve US presidents. He is perhaps best known for his biography on young John F. Kennedy, JFK: Reckless Youth (1992) which was made into a four-hour ABC mini-series the following year.

Hamilton is currently working on the second volume of the FDR biography, Commander in Chief: FDR at War, 1943-1945.
