Biography

Amy Sue Hazel, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts is an experienced Theatrical Scenic Designer and Scenic Painter.

Additional Information

Amy Sue Hazel is an experienced Theatrical Scenic Designer and painter. Prior to her role at UMass Boston, she held the position of Scenic Charge Artist at First Stage Children's Theater in Milwaukee, WI. During her time there she led the painting of 40 shows, including notable productions such as Elf: The Musical, Matilda: The Musical, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and The Wiz. In addition, she worked as a Scenic Designer and Painter for various small theatres in the local area.

Professor Hazel has been an active member of The United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and The International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) since 2013. She currently holds the position of Treasurer for the New England Regional Section of USITT.

Her first Contribution here at UMass was in Fall 2022 as the Associate Scenic Designer and Scenic Charge Artist for Working: The Musical. She is now contributing her knowledge and experience to each production within the areas of Scenic Design, Scenic Painting and Properties.
