Latino Studies Minor

Drive Social Change & Racial Justice Through Latino Studies. 

The Latino Studies Minor at UMass Boston is an ethnic studies program grounded in the histories, experiences, and cultural expressions of Latinx communities in the US. This program fosters a deep understanding of racial justice, ethnic histories, and social dynamics and inspires students to make a difference in the world. 

Through the curriculum, you’ll explore the complexities of how Latinx individuals and communities shape their identities. This program will equip you with the knowledge and perspective you need to make a meaningful impact.

As a student in this program, you’ll have the advantage of personalized advising that aligns your academic goals with your personal and professional aspirations. After finishing, you can use the skills from this program in various careers, including social justice advocacy, community engagement, and public policy.

Graduation Criteria

Complete 18 credits from 6-8 courses, including 1 core course; 2 additional courses in Latino Studies; and 3 electives.

GPA: A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required from all courses used for the minor.

Pass/fail: No more than 1 elective may be taken pass/fail.

Residency: At least five courses for the minor must be completed at UMass Boston
