UMass Boston is a great student centered, public urban university that stands with the city.
We have developed our urban mission through a continuous emphasis on excellent faculty and instruction, affordable costs, and responsiveness to community needs. We are geographically and financially accessible to students of all means, ages, and backgrounds. We have become the most ethnically diverse four-year public university in New England. More than half of our graduates are the first persons in their families to receive a college degree and most remain in the area to contribute to the economic, social, and cultural vitality of the region.
Since the 1980s the populations of both Boston and Massachusetts have increased only due to an influx of foreign-born immigrants. Boston's only public university is a significant doorway of opportunity for these immigrants. Remarkably over 80% of UMass Boston's alumni remain to live and work in the Commonwealth. An investment in UMass Boston is an investment in the long term economic and cultural vitality of our region.
