Types of Graduate Financial Aid:  Employment

Within each type are several programs; with Employment programs outlined below.  These programs are either federally funded, state funded, or university funded.  When your financial aid application is complete UMass Boston considers you for all programs administered by FAS.  However, each program has its own eligibility requirements and deadlines; be sure to maximize your eligibility by following the proper guidelines.

Employment

Student Employment at UMass Boston is coordinated through Student Employment Services, located on the 4th floor of the Campus Center.  All active students at UMass Boston are eligible to work.  Each student employment program has its own restrictions; therefore, not every student is eligible for every type of job.  Students should have all necessary forms completed before beginning employment.  For additional information, visit them at www.umb.edu/students/employment.

The CC/Institutional Program allows active students at UMass Boston to work on campus regardless of their FWS eligibility.  The department pays 100% of the student' wages from its account.

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program is limited to undergraduate and graduate students including students who are seeking a second baccalaureate degree.  FWS funds are awarded to students enrolled for any number of credits or credit equivalencies, provided there is financial need and sufficient funding available.  Earnings are paid directly to the student.  Positions are located on campus and off-campus with local, contracted, non-profit agencies.  A particular emphasis on community service opportunities exists within the FWS program.  If you are eligible, you are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.

The Part-Time Jobs Program consists of off-campus work opportunities.  Students are paid directly by the off-campus employer.   Students interested in working off campus must be eligible to participate in this program.  The visa status of certain international students may limit their ability to participate in this program.
