Personnel Services

Oversees management of the university’s personnel policies and procedures.

  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State, Trustee, UMass System, university and Union provisions, policies and procedures;
  • Ensures accuracy of all transactions for appointments, post-appointments, job changes, paid professional leaves (sabbaticals, professional improvement) and additional compensation;
  • Works closely with, and provides direction to, all Colleges, departments and units on personnel matters;
    Communicates personnel policies and procedures;
  • Monitors integrity of position classification standards and compliance with policies and procedures that apply to each classification;
  • Counsels departments on appropriate classification to use based on department’s hiring/staffing need;
  • Administers all pre-employment documentation (e.g., tax forms, I-9’s, personal data questionnaire, Conflict of Interest brochure) to be completed by and/or disseminated to employees as a condition of employment at the university;
  • Develops and promotes university initiatives on employee recognition, work/family programs, experiencing the community and Employee Assistance Programs;
  • Conducts outreach and training programs, and develops guidelines and handbooks, on personnel policies and procedures.
